Elisa Rodriguez was born in St. Louis, MO but grew up in Laredo, TX the middle child of three. Elisa recalls needing to have a radio on to fall asleep at night. “I remember music always playing in the house and it wasn’t until I was about 8 years old that I realized you could actually make a living singing”
"Music was always blaring throughout the house Spanish, English, rock, disco... It would go from the bee gees to Luis Miguel then some Donna Summer to Vicente Fernandez. I remember my mom showing me how to do the hustle. My dad used to turn off all the lights in the living room and use a flashlight as my spotlight to pretend I was on stage”. She recalls seeing her name “Elisa” on a billboard advertising the performance of a local band, “I knew that's where I needed to be on stage, in the public eye, performing for a living”.
From choir, to mariachi and school show bands, to local cover bands. Each unique musical experience helped shape her performance skill as well as her vocal chops. “Being a Local “star” in Laredo wasn’t enough. I had a bigger vision to be heard outside the small town. I packed my bags and traveled to new york to find any opportunity I could. Being in new york, I felt like I was that much closer to realizing my dreams but I would soon learn that it was going to take not only drive, passion, and everything else that comes with hard work but more importantly faith. Faith in finding the right opportunity, because yes opportunity was everywhere in new york, but it was very easy to get sucked into something that wasn’t true to me, just for the sake of doing.”
In 2008 as Elisa headed out for karaoke with friends she had a chance meeting with producer Jimmy Greco who happened to be there for a party. Greco states, “At a distance I heard a voice that seemed “over qualified for just Karaoke” I figured she must be a pro. I approached her to find out what she was working on and see how I could possibly help get involved”. Soon after they started working in the studio to develop what would become “The Elisa sound” Elisa states: “it was important for me to incorporate the diverse musical influences that I grew up with and Jimmy got that.”
Greco’s Label signed Elisa to an exclusive contract in mid 2010 and are now completed the tasks of developing the album, building the live show, and building the fan base who will be the foundation to her single scheduled to be launched summer 2011.
