Latino Media Day at the Access Awards!
Through the second annual Access Awards celebration, Boston Latino TV honored and recognized six individuals and organizations that demonstrated commitment to the Latino community by using their influence, creativity, leadership, networks, passion, vision and spirit for the advancement of the Latino community. Honorees were determined by a selection committee made up of last year's Access Awards recipients.
The 2009 Access Awards, themed "Agents of Change", took place on Thursday, May 28th, 2009 at 7:00 pm, at Underbar Lounge, located in the heart of Boston’s Theatre District. As guests and supporters arrived the place they were welcomed with a photo arrival, courtesy of Luzportfolio.
During the VSOP Reception, guests and honorees were able to have a "taste" of Hennessy, while listening to the beats of by DJ Matos, one of Boston's top music mixers and winner of El Planeta's Best of Boston 2009. Individuals from government, industry and nonprofit organizations, and private citizens representatives of the diverse elements of the Latino community, enjoyed of complimentary beverages and appetizers, courtesy of Merengue Restaurant and El Oriental de Cuba.
Ramiro Torres, radio host personality from JAM'N 94.5 and MC of the event, took the stage to announce that Deval Patrick, Governor of Massachusetts, had joined the celebration. Governor Patrick congratulated the Access Awards honorees and then surprised the audience with the proclamation of the first "Latino Media Day" in Massachusetts.
The celebration continued with an amusing performance of Louis Ortiz, actor and Obama impersonator, who highlighted the importance of new media to showcase the Latino talent. "I was interviewed in Washington DC by a TV host of a show that is produced in Boston, was edited in Dallas, clip was uploaded in YouTube and watched by a booking agent in Miami, and then link to video was emailed to producers in Korea who later took me overseas to film a commercial there!That's the power of the new media!"

When Ramiro was ready to leave the stage, we surprised him with an Official Citation from the Senate of Massachusetts, where we recognized him for his excellence in radio broadcasting.
Gio Williams, music/producer/songwriter, will perform at the Access Awards to present the official Boston Latino TV theme of 2009. The song, and adaptation of Emilio Stephan production "Te Quiero Ver", will be featured on BNN and also during the Access Awards pre and post-coverage.
The last part of the event consisted in a fashion show with jewelry of Colombian designer Catalina de la Torre, and modeled by ethnic models of L.I.Ps Promotion. Sara Suarez, VP of News of Univision Nueva Inglaterra, presented the multicultural fashion show that represented the blending of races in America.
